Lessons are currently £3/lesson/student. Annual membership of £15 needed once the student decides to progress their journey. Uniform and protective aids can be progressively added as and when needed (not all needed at the beginning of a students journey). If a student is given an opportunity to grade, a grading is typically £15/grading. T-Shirts are typically £10/item. Suits can vary depending on size (£25-£40).
Lessons are Pay As You Go, there are NO contracts, NO direct debits and NO standing orders.
You will need a drink, small towel, emergency contact details, comfortable training clothes (t-shirt, joggers & trainers). When you arrive for registration please ensure an instructor or the register taker knows its your first lesson – it can get manic when students start to arrive.
No, you are in safe hands. Any partner work or sparring is monitored and is strictly light controlled contact. During any physical exercise a small risk does exists, e.g. tripping etc.
Yes, if you progress to a grading, a white V neck suit (Gi) is the current uniform. Ideally during training the Gi is used although most students use the white Gi bottoms with a club T-shirt – this is allowed. At the start of your journey we do not expect full uniform.
Typically 3-4 times a year (every 3 months/12 weeks), this is dependant on a students current ability, skill level and accrued minimum coaching time. No grading is guaranteed. The higher the belt the longer the period between gradings. Higher belt grading is typically done annually or biannual.
A minimum period of 3½ to 4 years is needed of training along with the necessary belt progression before you are considered for a DAN grading. Good attitude, fitness, courtsey and general conduct are also large considerations before a student is considered to be put forward.
Presently a CMA training/social camp is done annually, this is great for extra training in the outdoors. Any black belts that are successful in their gradings also warrants a social to celebrate! Other activities are planned.
Presently we have a number of young children who train. Appropriate considerations are given along with any expectations for their ages whilst training and grading. Young children are still growing, we dont allow children to hit pads all lesson – this is not a safe practise. Concentrating on movement, balance and improving coordination is key for young students (and having fun – this is also important).
Similar to risk assessements, code or practise and the raft of other admin that comes with running a martial arts club, CMA has a fully documented training syllabus (you`ll see the instructors and coaches using the coaching/battle cards regulary to ensure we dont go off course). Proper and correct student preparation for grading is conducted throughout. The students journey is recorded in student handbooks along with computer software (for recording attendance and grading entitlement/coaching hours).
The club has white V neck Gi`s usually in stock. Gloves and feet protection are usually purchased directly from Blitz, RDX, Playwell, Bytomic etc although they can also be offered via the club. The instructors can assit and advise where necessary.
Yes, all students (or parents if students are cadets) are asked regarding due permissions for social media and websites. Anyone who does not consent will not have their image published.
